Ulmus
Ulmus is a genus of deciduous trees commonly known as elms. They are characterized by their serrated leaves and distinctive, asymmetrical leaf bases. Elms are found in various regions around the world, particularly in temperate climates, and are valued for their shade and aesthetic appeal in urban landscapes.
These trees can grow quite large, reaching heights of up to 100 feet. Ulmus species are also important for their ecological role, providing habitat and food for various wildlife. However, many elms have been affected by diseases such as Dutch elm disease, which has significantly reduced their populations in some areas.
