Ukrainian nationalism
Ukrainian nationalism is a political and cultural movement that emphasizes the identity, culture, and interests of the Ukrainian people. It seeks to promote the idea of an independent Ukrainian state and the preservation of Ukrainian language and traditions. This movement has historical roots, particularly in response to foreign domination and influence, including periods under Russian and Austro-Hungarian rule.
The rise of Ukrainian nationalism became particularly prominent during the 20th century, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, when Ukraine gained independence. Nationalist sentiments have been further fueled by conflicts, such as the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 and ongoing tensions in the Donbas region, reinforcing the desire for a strong national identity and sovereignty.
