Holodomor
The Holodomor was a devastating famine that occurred in Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933. It resulted from the policies of the Soviet government under Joseph Stalin, which included forced collectivization of agriculture and grain requisition quotas. Millions of Ukrainians suffered from starvation, and estimates of the death toll range from 3 to 7 million people.
The term "Holodomor" combines the Ukrainian words for "hunger" and "extermination," reflecting the belief that the famine was a result of deliberate actions by the Soviet regime. This tragic event is recognized by many countries as a genocide against the Ukrainian people, highlighting the severe impact of political repression and economic mismanagement.
