Ukrainian Holodomor
The Ukrainian Holodomor was a devastating famine that occurred in Ukraine from 1932 to 1933. It resulted from the policies of the Soviet government under Joseph Stalin, which included forced collectivization of agriculture and grain requisitioning. Millions of Ukrainians suffered from starvation, and it is estimated that between 3 to 7 million people died as a result.
The term "Holodomor" combines the Ukrainian words for "hunger" and "extermination," reflecting the belief that the famine was a deliberate act to suppress Ukrainian nationalism. The event is recognized by many countries as a genocide against the Ukrainian people, highlighting the severe impact of Soviet policies on Ukraine's population and culture.
