USS Triton
The USS Triton (SSRN-586) was a nuclear-powered submarine of the United States Navy, launched in 1959. It was the first submarine to circumnavigate the globe submerged, completing this historic journey in 1960. The Triton was designed for long-range missions and could carry out strategic deterrence operations.
Equipped with advanced technology for its time, the Triton had a displacement of about 3,000 tons and was capable of reaching speeds over 20 knots. It served primarily during the Cold War, contributing to the United States' naval capabilities alongside other submarines like the USS Nautilus and USS Scorpion.
