USS Spence (DD-559)
The USS Spence (DD-559) was a Gearing-class destroyer of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1944. Designed for anti-submarine warfare and surface action, she played a significant role during World War II, participating in various operations in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, the USS Spence continued to serve in the Navy until she was decommissioned in 1970. Tragically, she sank during a typhoon in 1952 while on a training exercise, resulting in the loss of 74 crew members. The ship's legacy remains a testament to the bravery and dedication of her crew.
