The USS Spence (DD-512) was a Gearing-class destroyer of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1944. She served primarily during World War II, participating in various operations in the Pacific Theater, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Tragically, the USS Spence was lost during a typhoon in December 1944 while returning to Ulithi Atoll. The ship capsized and sank, resulting in the loss of 66 crew members. Her legacy is remembered as part of the sacrifices made by the U.S. Navy during the war.
