USS Pompano (SS-181)
The USS Pompano (SS-181) was a United States Navy submarine that served during World War II. Launched on 8 December 1941, she was part of the Gato-class submarines, designed for long-range missions. The Pompano was equipped with torpedoes and had a displacement of about 1,500 tons when submerged.
Throughout her service, the Pompano completed several patrols in the Pacific Theater, targeting enemy shipping and naval forces. Unfortunately, she was lost in action in 1943, and her fate remained unknown for many years until wreckage was discovered in 1993. The submarine is remembered for her contributions to the war effort.
