USS O'Bannon (DD-450) History
The USS O'Bannon (DD-450) was a Benson-class destroyer of the United States Navy, commissioned on 15 December 1942. Named after Lieutenant Colonel Jacob O'Bannon, a Marine Corps officer, the ship played a significant role during World War II, participating in various operations in the Pacific Theater, including the battles of Guadalcanal and Leyte Gulf.
After the war, the USS O'Bannon continued to serve in the Navy until it was decommissioned on 1 July 1970. The ship was eventually sold for scrap in 1974, concluding its nearly three decades of service and contributions to naval history.
