USS Mount Hood (AE-37) History
The USS Mount Hood (AE-37) was a fast combat support ship of the United States Navy, launched on March 1, 1970. It was named after Mount Hood, a prominent peak in Oregon. The ship was designed to provide ammunition and supplies to naval forces, playing a crucial role during the Cold War and in various military operations.
Commissioned on December 17, 1971, the USS Mount Hood served in the Pacific Fleet, participating in numerous exercises and deployments. It was decommissioned on June 30, 2001, after three decades of service, and was later sunk as a target during a training exercise in 2009.
