USS McGowan (DE-215) History
The USS McGowan (DE-215) was a Buckley-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy, launched on 24 March 1943. She was named in honor of Lieutenant Commander John McGowan, who served during World War II. The ship was commissioned on 15 June 1943 and primarily operated in the Atlantic Theater during the war, providing escort and anti-submarine duties.
After the war, the USS McGowan was decommissioned on 15 June 1946 and placed in reserve. She was later reclassified as a frigate and served in the Naval Reserve Force until her final decommissioning in 1970. The ship was eventually sold for scrap in 1973.
