USS McGowan (DE-215)
The USS McGowan (DE-215) was a Buckley-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy, launched on 24 March 1943. It was named in honor of Lieutenant Commander John McGowan, who served during World War II. The ship was designed to provide anti-submarine warfare support and escort duties for larger vessels.
Commissioned on 15 September 1943, the USS McGowan served primarily in the Atlantic Theater during World War II. It participated in various operations, including convoy escort missions, and was involved in the Battle of the Atlantic. The ship was decommissioned on 15 June 1946 and later sold for scrap.
