USS Halsey Powell (DD-686) History
The USS Halsey Powell (DD-686) was a Gearing-class destroyer of the United States Navy, launched on 27 March 1945. Named after Admiral William Halsey Jr., the ship served primarily in the Pacific Theater during World War II, participating in various operations and earning multiple battle stars for her service.
After the war, the USS Halsey Powell continued to serve in the Navy, participating in Cold War operations and training exercises. She was decommissioned on 1 December 1970 and later sold for scrap in 1974, marking the end of her nearly three decades of service.
