USS Bonhomme Richard
The USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) was an amphibious assault ship of the United States Navy, commissioned in 1998. Named after the famous Benjamin Franklin pseudonym, it was designed to support Marine Corps operations, providing a platform for helicopters and landing craft. The ship could carry a variety of aircraft, including MV-22 Ospreys and AH-1Z Vipers.
In July 2020, the USS Bonhomme Richard suffered a significant fire while docked in San Diego, California, leading to extensive damage. The ship was ultimately decommissioned in April 2021, marking the end of its service after over two decades of operation.
