USCGC Healy
The USCGC Healy is a polar icebreaker operated by the United States Coast Guard. Commissioned in 2000, it is designed to support scientific research and maintain navigable waters in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. The vessel is equipped with advanced technology to break through thick ice and facilitate various missions, including environmental monitoring and search and rescue operations.
Healy is named after Captain Edward H. Healy, a notable figure in the U.S. Coast Guard's history. With a length of 420 feet, it can accommodate a crew of about 85 personnel and has the capacity to support up to 50 scientists on board during research expeditions.
