UNOS
The United Network for Organ Sharing, or UNOS, is a non-profit organization that manages the nation's organ transplant system in the United States. Established in 1984, it coordinates the allocation of organs from donors to patients in need of transplants, ensuring a fair and efficient process.
UNOS operates the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), which maintains a national database of organ donors and transplant candidates. This system helps match available organs with patients based on medical urgency, compatibility, and geographic location, ultimately aiming to save lives through successful organ transplants.
