Types of Asteroids
Asteroids are categorized into several types based on their composition and location in the solar system. The three main types are C-type (carbonaceous), S-type (silicaceous), and M-type (metallic). C-type asteroids are dark and rich in carbon, while S-type asteroids are made up of silicate materials and metals. M-type asteroids are primarily composed of metallic iron and nickel.
Most asteroids are found in the Asteroid Belt, which lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Some asteroids, known as Near-Earth Asteroids, have orbits that bring them close to Earth. Others, called Trojan asteroids, share an orbit with a larger planet, such as Jupiter.
