Turtle Mound
Turtle Mound is a large prehistoric shell mound located in Canaveral National Seashore, Florida. It was built by the Timucua people, who inhabited the region over a thousand years ago. The mound is approximately 30 feet high and 660 feet long, primarily composed of oyster shells and other marine debris.
The site served as a burial ground and a ceremonial area, reflecting the cultural practices of the Timucua. Today, Turtle Mound is a protected archaeological site, offering visitors a glimpse into the history and lifestyle of the indigenous peoples of Florida.
