Turbidite
A turbidite is a type of sedimentary deposit formed by underwater landslides or sediment flows. These flows, known as turbidity currents, occur when sediment-laden water becomes denser than the surrounding water, causing it to flow down the continental slope. As the current slows, it deposits layers of sediment, creating a characteristic sequence of graded bedding.
Turbidites are commonly found in deep-sea environments and are important for understanding geological processes. They can provide valuable information about past ocean conditions and are often studied in relation to continental margins and submarine canyons.
