Tunguska Event
The Tunguska Event occurred on June 30, 1908, in a remote area of Siberia, Russia. It was caused by the explosion of a small comet or asteroid entering Earth's atmosphere, which released energy equivalent to about 10-15 megatons of TNT. This explosion flattened approximately 2,000 square kilometers of forest, knocking down around 80 million trees.
Despite the massive explosion, there were no confirmed human casualties due to the sparsely populated region. The event remains one of the largest impact-related explosions in recorded history, leading to ongoing scientific research into asteroid impacts and their potential effects on Earth.
