Chelyabinsk Meteor
The Chelyabinsk Meteor was a small asteroid that entered Earth's atmosphere over Russia on February 15, 2013. It exploded in an airburst, releasing energy equivalent to about 470 kilotons of TNT. The event created a bright flash and a powerful shockwave that damaged over 7,000 buildings and injured around 1,500 people, primarily due to broken glass.
The meteor was approximately 20 meters in diameter and weighed about 13,000 metric tons before entering the atmosphere. Its trajectory was tracked by various observatories, and the event highlighted the importance of monitoring near-Earth objects to prevent potential future impacts.
