Tungsten Filament
A tungsten filament is a thin wire made from the metal tungsten, known for its high melting point and durability. It is commonly used in light bulbs, where it produces light when an electric current passes through it. The filament glows brightly due to the heat generated, providing illumination.
Tungsten is favored for filaments because it can withstand temperatures over 3,000 degrees Celsius without melting. This property allows light bulbs to emit a warm, steady light. Additionally, the use of tungsten filaments has been largely replaced by more energy-efficient options, such as LED and CFL bulbs, in modern lighting.
