Tuareg Rebellion
The Tuareg Rebellion refers to a series of uprisings by the Tuareg people, a nomadic ethnic group primarily found in the Sahara Desert. These rebellions have occurred mainly in Mali and Niger, driven by grievances over political marginalization, economic neglect, and cultural discrimination. The first major rebellion began in 1962, with subsequent uprisings in the 1990s and 2000s, as the Tuareg sought greater autonomy and recognition of their rights.
The conflict has often been complicated by the involvement of various armed groups and external influences, including the rise of Islamist militants in the region. Efforts to resolve the conflict have included peace agreements, but tensions remain high, as the Tuareg continue to advocate for their rights and autonomy within the national frameworks of Mali and Niger.
