Trypsinogen
Trypsinogen is an inactive precursor of the enzyme trypsin, produced in the pancreas. It plays a crucial role in digestion by being converted into trypsin in the small intestine. This conversion is triggered by the enzyme enterokinase, which activates trypsinogen when it comes into contact with it.
Once activated, trypsin helps break down proteins into smaller peptides, facilitating nutrient absorption. The regulation of trypsinogen and its activation is essential for proper digestive function, as excessive activation can lead to conditions like pancreatitis, where the pancreas becomes inflamed.
