Trouvère
A trouvère was a type of medieval poet and musician from northern France, active during the 12th to 14th centuries. They composed and performed songs in the Old French language, often focusing on themes of chivalry, love, and courtly life. Their works were typically written in verse and accompanied by music, contributing to the rich tradition of troubadour culture.
Unlike the troubadours of southern France, who wrote in the Occitan language, trouvères played a crucial role in the development of French literature. Their songs were often performed in the courts of nobles and were influential in shaping the lyrical styles of later European poetry.
