Treaty of Zamorra
The Treaty of Zamorra was an agreement signed in 1143 between the kingdoms of Portugal and Leon. It recognized the independence of Portugal from Leon, marking a significant step in the establishment of Portugal as a separate entity. The treaty was named after the location where it was signed, Zamorra, in present-day Spain.
This treaty was crucial in shaping the political landscape of the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages. It allowed Portugal to develop its own identity and governance, paving the way for future territorial expansion and the eventual establishment of the Kingdom of Portugal.
