Traditional Characters
Traditional Characters are a form of written Chinese used primarily in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. They have a long history and are characterized by their complex structure, which often includes more strokes than their simplified counterparts. Traditional Characters are used in various cultural and literary contexts, preserving the historical and artistic aspects of the Chinese language.
In contrast, Simplified Characters were developed in the mid-20th century to promote literacy by reducing the number of strokes in many characters. While Simplified Characters are widely used in Mainland China and Singapore, Traditional Characters remain important for cultural heritage, calligraphy, and classical literature.
