Trabecular Bone
Trabecular bone, also known as cancellous or spongy bone, is a type of bone tissue found primarily at the ends of long bones, within the interior of others, and in the vertebrae. It has a porous, lattice-like structure that provides strength while reducing weight, making it essential for supporting the body's framework.
This type of bone is rich in bone marrow, where blood cells are produced. Trabecular bone is more metabolically active than cortical bone, the denser outer layer, and plays a crucial role in the body's calcium regulation and overall skeletal health.
