Toxicodendron Vernicifluum
Toxicodendron vernicifluum, commonly known as the lacquer tree, is a deciduous tree native to East Asia. It is known for producing a natural resin called urushi, which is used in traditional Japanese and Chinese lacquerware. The tree can grow up to 20 meters tall and has glossy leaves that turn vibrant colors in the fall.
The resin from Toxicodendron vernicifluum can cause skin irritation in some individuals, similar to the effects of poison ivy, which is also a member of the Anacardiaceae family. Despite this, the resin is highly valued for its durability and is used in various crafts and finishes.
