Torreya tree
The Torreya tree, also known as Torreya taxifolia, is a coniferous tree native to the southeastern United States. It typically grows in moist, well-drained soils and can reach heights of up to 30 feet. The tree is characterized by its dark green, needle-like leaves and produces edible seeds that are often used in cooking.
This species is currently facing threats from habitat loss and a fungal disease called tuberculate canker, which has significantly reduced its population. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining trees and restore their habitats, ensuring the survival of this unique species.
