Torrey pine tree
The Torrey pine tree (Pinus torreyana) is a rare species of pine native to the coastal regions of southern California. It is known for its tall, straight trunk and long, slender needles that grow in clusters of five. The tree can reach heights of up to 100 feet and is characterized by its distinctive, irregularly shaped cones.
There are two main populations of the Torrey pine tree: one on Santa Rosa Island and the other on the mainland near San Diego. This tree thrives in sandy soils and is adapted to the coastal climate, making it an important part of the local ecosystem. Conservation efforts are in place to protect this unique species from habitat loss.
