Tokugawa Nariaki
Tokugawa Nariaki was a prominent Japanese feudal lord during the late Edo period. Born in 1800, he was the 9th daimyo of the Mito Domain, which was known for its cultural and intellectual contributions. Nariaki was an advocate for modernization and sought to strengthen Japan against foreign influence.
He played a significant role in the political landscape of his time, promoting the Sonno Joi movement, which emphasized reverence for the emperor and expulsion of foreigners. Nariaki's efforts in education and military reform were influential, and he is remembered as a key figure in the lead-up to the Meiji Restoration.
