Tobacco Hornworm
The Tobacco Hornworm is the larval stage of the Five-spotted Hawkmoth, known for its distinctive green body and horn-like projection on its rear. These caterpillars primarily feed on plants in the nightshade family, especially tobacco and tomato plants. They can grow up to 4 inches long and are often found in gardens and agricultural fields.
As they consume large amounts of foliage, Tobacco Hornworms can cause significant damage to crops. Farmers and gardeners often monitor for their presence and may use natural predators or insecticides to manage their populations. Once fully grown, they pupate in the soil, eventually emerging as adult moths.
