Timar
Timar is a historical term used in the Ottoman Empire to describe a land grant given to military officers and administrators. These grants were intended to provide income in exchange for military service and were typically composed of agricultural land. The holders of timar, known as timar holders, were responsible for collecting taxes and maintaining order in their assigned regions.
The timar system played a crucial role in the Ottoman military and administrative structure. It allowed the empire to maintain a loyal and effective military force while also ensuring local governance. This system contributed to the stability and expansion of the Ottoman Empire from the 14th to the 17th centuries.
