Tiger's Nest Monastery
Tiger's Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang, is a prominent Buddhist monastery located in the cliffs of the Paro Valley in Bhutan. Built in the 17th century, it is perched about 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The monastery is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists and is known for its unique architecture and serene atmosphere.
The name "Tiger's Nest" comes from the legend that the Guru Padmasambhava meditated here in the 8th century after arriving on the back of a tigress. The site consists of four temples and several other rooms, connected by a series of staircases and walkways. Visitors often hike a steep trail to reach the monastery, making it a popular destination for tourists and spiritual seekers alike.
