Thymic Tumors
Thymic tumors are abnormal growths that occur in the thymus, a small organ located in the chest that plays a crucial role in the immune system. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous) and may affect the production of T-cells, which are essential for fighting infections.
The most common type of thymic tumor is the thymoma, which often grows slowly and may not cause symptoms initially. Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests like CT scans and may require a biopsy. Treatment options include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, depending on the tumor's type and stage.
