Thomas Ken was an English bishop and hymn writer born in 1637. He is best known for his role as a nonconformist clergyman during the Restoration period. Ken served as the Bishop of Bath and Wells and was a prominent figure in the Church of England.
Ken is particularly famous for writing the hymn "Awake, My Soul, and with the Sun," which is still sung today. He was also known for his strong moral convictions and his opposition to the monarchy's interference in church matters, leading to his eventual imprisonment for refusing to conform to royal demands.
