Thomas Gage
Thomas Gage was a British general and colonial administrator known for his role during the early stages of the American Revolutionary War. Born in 1719, he served as the commander of British forces in North America and was appointed the governor of Massachusetts in 1774. His leadership during this tumultuous period was marked by significant events, including the battles of Lexington and Concord.
Gage's tenure was characterized by increasing tensions between British authorities and American colonists. His attempts to enforce British laws and suppress dissent often led to conflict, ultimately contributing to the outbreak of the war. He returned to Britain in 1775, where he continued to be involved in military affairs until his retirement.
