Thomas Campbell
Thomas Campbell was a Scottish poet and writer, born on July 27, 1777, in Glasgow, Scotland. He is best known for his lyrical poetry and his works that often reflect themes of nature, love, and human experience. Some of his notable poems include “The Pleasures of Hope” and “Gertrude of Wyoming.”
In addition to his poetry, Campbell was also involved in the literary community of his time, befriending other writers such as Lord Byron and William Wordsworth. He served as the first professor of poetry at University College London and contributed to various literary journals throughout his career.
