Tholos Tombs
Tholos tombs are ancient burial structures characterized by their circular, beehive-like shape. They were primarily built by the Mycenaeans during the late Bronze Age, around 1600 to 1100 BCE. These tombs were constructed using large stone blocks and featured a long entrance passage leading to a central burial chamber, often adorned with elaborate decorations.
The most famous examples of tholos tombs can be found in Mycenae, Greece, including the Treasury of Atreus. These tombs served as royal burial sites and were often filled with valuable grave goods, reflecting the wealth and status of the individuals buried within them.
