Third Council of Toledo
The Third Council of Toledo was held in 589 AD in the city of Toledo, Spain. This important church assembly was convened by the Visigothic King Reccared I to address the religious unity of his kingdom. The council marked a significant shift as it officially adopted Catholicism over Arianism, which had been the dominant belief among the Visigoths.
During the council, approximately 80 bishops gathered to discuss various theological issues and to establish a unified doctrine. The decisions made at this council helped to solidify the influence of the Catholic Church in the Iberian Peninsula and laid the groundwork for future religious policies in the region.
