The Libation Bearers
"The Libation Bearers" is the second play in the Oresteia trilogy by the ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus. It follows Orestes, the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra, as he returns to Argos to avenge his father's murder. Guided by the commands of the god Apollo, Orestes seeks to confront his mother and her lover, Aegisthus.
The play explores themes of justice, revenge, and the cycle of violence within families. Orestes is joined by his sister Electra, who helps him in his quest for vengeance. Their actions set the stage for the final play in the trilogy, which addresses the consequences of their deeds and the establishment of a new order.
