The 1619 Project
The 1619 Project is an initiative launched by the New York Times in August 2019 to mark the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved Africans in Virginia. It aims to reframe American history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the center of the national narrative.
The project includes essays, poems, and multimedia content that explore the impact of slavery on various aspects of American life, including politics, culture, and economics. It seeks to encourage a deeper understanding of how the legacy of slavery continues to shape the United States today.
