Tetrao tetrix
The Tetrao tetrix, commonly known as the black grouse, is a large bird found in the forests and moorlands of Europe and parts of Asia. Males are known for their striking black plumage and distinctive lyre-shaped tail, while females are brown and mottled for camouflage. They are ground-dwelling birds that prefer open habitats with nearby trees for cover.
Black grouse are known for their unique courtship displays, where males gather in leks to attract females. Their diet mainly consists of leaves, berries, and seeds. Unfortunately, their populations are declining due to habitat loss and changes in land use, making conservation efforts essential.
