The Tensor Fasciae Latae (TFL) is a small muscle located on the outer side of the hip. It plays a crucial role in stabilizing the pelvis and supporting movements of the hip and thigh. The TFL helps with actions such as walking, running, and climbing stairs by assisting in hip flexion, abduction, and medial rotation.
This muscle is connected to the iliotibial band (IT band), a thick band of connective tissue that runs down the outside of the thigh. The TFL works in conjunction with other muscles, including the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, to maintain balance and proper alignment during physical activities.
