Tenrecidae
The family Tenrecidae consists of small, insectivorous mammals primarily found in Madagascar and the Comoros. These unique creatures resemble hedgehogs or shrews but are not closely related to either. Tenrecidae includes various species, such as the common tenrec and the lesser hedgehog tenrec, which exhibit diverse adaptations to their environments.
Tenrecs are known for their spiny fur, which provides protection from predators. They have a varied diet, primarily feeding on insects, worms, and small invertebrates. Tenrecidae species display interesting behaviors, including some that are nocturnal and others that hibernate during colder months.
