Tenerife airport disaster
The Tenerife airport disaster occurred on March 27, 1977, at Los Rodeos Airport on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife. It involved two Boeing 747 jumbo jets, operated by KLM and Pan Am, colliding on the runway in dense fog. The accident resulted in the deaths of 583 people, making it the deadliest aviation disaster in history.
The disaster was caused by a series of miscommunications and misunderstandings between the flight crews and air traffic control. Following the incident, significant changes were made to aviation safety protocols, including improvements in cockpit communication and air traffic management to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
