Temple of Hera
The Temple of Hera, also known as the Heraion, is an ancient Greek temple located in Olympia, dedicated to the goddess Hera, the wife of Zeus. Built in the 6th century BCE, it is one of the earliest examples of Doric architecture. The temple housed a statue of Hera, which was a significant religious symbol for the people of Olympia.
The temple was part of a larger sanctuary complex that included other important structures, such as the Stadium and the Altis. It played a crucial role in the Olympic Games, where athletes would offer sacrifices to Hera before competing. The site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors interested in ancient history.
