The Templars, formally known as the {Knights Templar}, were a medieval Christian military order founded in 1119. Their primary mission was to protect pilgrims traveling to the {Holy Land} during the {Crusades}. The order gained significant wealth and power, establishing a network of fortifications and banking systems across Europe and the Middle East.
The Templars were recognized by the {Pope} and operated independently of local authorities. However, their influence led to suspicion, and in 1307, King {Philip IV of France} ordered their arrest, accusing them of heresy. The order was officially disbanded in 1312, and many Templars were executed or imprisoned.
