Teicoplanin
Teicoplanin is an antibiotic used primarily to treat serious infections caused by certain types of bacteria, particularly Gram-positive organisms. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, which ultimately leads to the death of the bacteria. Teicoplanin is often used in hospitals for infections that are resistant to other antibiotics.
This medication is typically administered through an injection, and it is effective against infections such as endocarditis and skin infections. While generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience side effects, including allergic reactions or changes in kidney function. Regular monitoring is recommended during treatment.
